After studying architectural design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, Radboud van Beekum designed interiors for organisations such as the Anne Frank House, and furniture for various companies and individuals. During this period he also designed the successful Kubusstoel (Cube Chair), which was launched onto the market by Pastoe in 1981. After he joined the spatial design team of design agency Total Design in Amsterdam, he designed desk furniture for the Dutch post offices, which was awarded with the Kho Liang Ie prize for industrial design in 1991. Since 2002 he has been focusing on archive research and on architecture and design publications, which has resulted in several books on the Amsterdam School architects. He was the publisher and editor of the BONAS book series from 2007 to 2015. During this period, 19 monographs on architects and designers were published. He has since established himself again as an independent historical researcher.
