Aldo van den Nieuwelaar (1944-2010) was one of the most important Dutch designers of the 1960s and 1970s. After his graduation from

the Academy of Arts, he worked for the highly influential Dutch designer Benno Premsela. Inspired by his employer, the De Stijl movement and Minimalist art of the 1960s

Van den Nieuwelaar developed a stringent geometrical style. In 1969, shortly after opening his own office, Van den Nieuwelaar came up with a series of lamps which were

all based on the application of fluorescent tubes. The entire range was exhibited at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and subsequently taken into limited batch production by Artimeta.
